Vintage movie projector lamp. 1940's. Beautiful lighting for any room. Film lovers lamp.
This movie projector lamp is one of a series that started life as 8MM home film projector and is now the perfect piece for the movie lover in your life. If you have a man cave or a movie room this would be a stylish and very rare addition. Your movie loving friends will not have one of these lamps. This model is an early mid 30s and it features a full set of spring coil drive components. It’s a heavy industrial masterpiece
These projectors emerged with the post war home movie boom. It was a fairly short lived craze which fizzled out as 8 then 16 MM projectors with sound and color became more popular and TV became ubiquitous. A few survived into the 70's even the 80's but they were entirely superseded by home video. When new these projectors were very expensive. They would have cost roughly the equivalent of a weeks wages for a typical professional. They are elegant jewels of technology from a time when there was almost no plastic (a little Bakelite maybe) and things were made to last.
The lamps come with 8MM reels which have been color matched to fit in with the lamp. The light it gives off is a warm glow, bright enough to be useful but not so bright as to detract from the screen. I have disconnected and or stripped out the old electronics and put in brand new fixtures throughout so that although the projector may well be 60 even 70 years old the electronic components are all new stock. Some people incorporate the original switches, even some of the original wiring in the up-cycling process. I admire the elegance and quality of the design but I don't trust old electronics so I always go with all new components throughout.
The lamp is switched for three levels of brightness. In general these lamps are in near perfect condition but they are old and there may be some slight wear or loss of surface texture in a few spots. I have maintained all the patina. If you insist you could shine your lamp up, but the patina is part of the charm.
The lamp DOES NOT INCLUDE A SHADE. It's built to accept any harp mounted shade (large recommended )These are widely available and typically cost about $20. It costs much more than that to ship a shade and you get the opportunity to choose a shade that suits your setting. The large drum shades by Allen and Roth available at Lowes fit this size piece perfectly
The lamp is shipped complete but slightly disassembled. You will need to put the bulb in the socket, and put the harp on the base, but that's ever so easy to do and shipping it this way means that we can pack it safer so it doesn't suffer on the way.
If you get the lamp and you hate it we accept returns. Just pack it up and send it back we will be happy to refund you in full. All you pay is return shipping.
